〔野球で〕 determination [eagerness] to hit the ball (well).

●打ち気満々である be determined [all fired up] to hit the ball [get a hit].

●打ち気にはやった打者は初球を空振りした. The batter, too determined [eager] to get a hit, swung at the first pitch and missed.

●投手は打者の打ち気をそらす球ばかり投げた. Every ball the pitcher threw was aimed at frustrating the batter's eagerness to get a hit.
